Cyril Dean Darlington (December 19, 1903 - March 26, 1981) is an English botanist and geneticist , one of the creators of cytogenetics , a classic of plant cytoembryology, one of the creators of the synthetic theory of evolution [1] [2] . He developed a theory that explained the mechanism of chromosome conjugation in meiosis (1932), which determined the direction of research on meiosis of plants and animals until the mid 50s of the 20th century [3] . Elected to the Royal Society of London on March 20, 1941 [2] .

In 1947, together with Ron Fisher, he founded the journal Heredity: An International Journal of Genetics , in which Darlington was able to publish his articles with unorthodox views on heredity [4] .
