Biography

Catherine was the daughter of Duke Ernst Zhelezny , from his marriage to Kimburg Mazowiecka , daughter of Prince Zemovit Mazowiecki . The elder brother of Catherine Frederick III was crowned emperor of the Holy Roman Empire in 1452 . She grew up in Wiener Neustadt , along with her brothers Frederick III and Albrecht VI .

July 15, 1447 married Charles I Margrave of Baden in Pforzheim . Having brought him a dowry of 30 thousand ducats . She expressed a desire to combine the Austrian and Baden coats of arms, on her personal coat of arms, thereby emphasizing her high rank. After his marriage, Charles I was appointed governor in Tyrol, Duke of Front Austria Sigismund . There, he met Sigismund's adviser Matthew Gummel .

Catherine survived her husband, with whom she lived in marriage for 28 years. She became the progenitor of the Baden House . Her son Christophe I left her Hohenbaden castle as the residence of the Dowager Margraine and built the New Castle in Baden-Baden for himself.

Catherine died in 1493 and was buried in Baden-Baden .

From a marriage with Charles I, Catherine gave birth to six children:

  • Kimburg (May 15, 1450 - July 5, 1501), married December 19, 1468 to Count Engelbert II of Nassau

  • Albrecht (1456-1488), Margrave of Baden-Hachberg
  • Frederick (July 9, 1458 - September 24, 1517), Bishop of Utrecht
