He was an employee of the US Department of State in the mid-1960s, his field of activity was related to computer technology. Initially, he was an anti-communist and dreamed of becoming a CIA officer , but became disillusioned with the United States after the outbreak of the Vietnam War ; lived in the US capital Washington, DC [3] .

Activities

Blam left the Department of State in 1967 and became the founder and editor of the Washington-based edition of Free Press , the first “alternative” newspaper in the US capital. In 1969, he wrote and published a revelatory article about the CIA, which listed the names and addresses of more than 200 employees of this organization. He has worked as an independent journalist in the United States, Europe and South America . In 1972-1973, Blam worked as a journalist in Chile , where, in particular, he made a report on the government of the “socialist experiment” of Salvador Allende . In the mid-1970s, he worked in London with ex-CIA officer Philip Agee and his associates "in his project to expose CIA personnel and their crimes" [4] . He makes a living with his books and articles and lectures on university campuses [3] .

In his books and online columns, Blam pays considerable attention to CIA operations, such as interfering in foreign affairs and attempting to target unwanted people. He supported the presidential campaign of Ralph Nader [5] . Blam prepares a monthly newsletter in electronic form called the Anti-Imperial Report. Blam speaks of the mission of his whole life as follows: “... If you do not stop, then at least slow down the growth of the American Empire. At least hurt the beast. It causes so much suffering all over the world ” [3] .

From October 5 to 11, 2015, William Blam was in Moscow at the invitation of the Center for Historical Expertise and State Forecasting of the RUDN University [6] . On October 7, Blam met with RUDN University Rector Vladimir Mikhailovich Filippov and gave a press conference. [7] [8] On October 8, a former employee of the US Department of State delivered a lecture to the students, graduate students and professors of RUDN University: “The Truth About US Foreign Policy and Many Other Things” [9] [10] .

Osama bin Laden's statement

In early 2006, Blam became the subject of widespread media attention for a while when Osama bin Laden issued a public statement in which he quoted Blam and encouraged all Americans to read his book Rogue State: A Guide to the World's Only Superpower . As a result of this statement, the sales of his books increased significantly. “I was very surprised and even shocked and amazed when I found out what he said,” said Blam. - I was happy. I knew that this would help sales of the book, and was not worried about who he was and where he came from. If he shares with me a deep aversion to certain aspects of US foreign policy, then I am not going to reject any endorsement of the book from him. I think it is good that he shares these views, and I will not turn back because of this ” [11] .
