Biography
Peter Spirin was born on July 5, 1911 in the village of Mikhailovka (now the Penza district of the Penza region ). After graduating from an agricultural technical school, he worked at the Zagotzerno office in the village of Grabovo, Penza Region. In 1933, Spirin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army ; in 1939 he graduated from the Leningrad Infantry School. He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war . Since July 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. He was wounded five times in battles. In 1942 he graduated from advanced training courses for command personnel [1] .
By September 1943, Captain Pyotr Spirin was the commander of the battalion of the 849th Infantry Regiment of the 303rd Infantry Division of the 57th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On September 25, 1943, Spirin, at the head of the battalion, crossed the Dnieper to Mussin Island and seized a bridgehead on it, after which he held it until the main forces crossed. On the night of September 26-27, he crossed to the western bank of the Dnieper and seized a bridgehead on the northern outskirts of Chervonnoye (now the village of Dniprovskoye in the Verkhnedneprovskiy region of the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine ), destroying about 100 enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of December 20, 1943 for captain Pyotr Spirin’s heroism and courage during the crossing of the North Donets and for the liberation of Stary Saltov and other settlements of the Kharkiv region, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 2550 [1] .
In subsequent battles, Spirin was seriously injured.
In the postwar period he served in the military commissariat. From November 14, 1945 to May 4, 1950 he served as a military commissar in Narovchat . Then he lived in Kuibyshev . In 1952, Spirin graduated from advanced training courses for officers. In 1955, with the rank of major, he was transferred to the reserve.
He died on February 16, 1973, was buried in Samara [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner , Alexander Nevsky and World War 1 degree, a number of medals [1] .
Perpetuation of memory
- A bust of Peter Spirin was installed in the village of Narovchat on the Alley of Heroes - natives and residents of the Narovchatsky district of the Penza region (after the war, Spirin served here as a military commissar for about five years).
