Kimberley Process Certification Scheme KPCS , KPCS - approved by the United Nations (according to resolution 55/56) in 2003 in accordance with the recommendations of the Fowler report, a scheme to prevent the market for the so-called blood diamonds - diamonds mined illegally and financing the purchase of weapons for rebel groups in West Africa and their allies fighting against legitimate governments [1] .

The effectiveness of the process was questioned by organizations such as Global Witness , which left the scheme on December 5, 2011, arguing that it did not fulfill its goals and did not provide confidence that diamonds entering the markets were not diamonds from the conflicts [2] .

Named after Kimberly , the "diamond capital of South Africa", where meetings were held to prepare a process diagram.
