Biography

Sotirios Crocidas was born in 1852 in the ancient Sikion of Corinthia .

He entered the University of Athens at the Faculty of Law.

In the period 1881 - 1897 he lectured on commercial law at the law faculty of his Alma Mater . Subsequently, he became a university professor.

In 1883 he was elected mayor of Sikion.

Since 1892, he was elected to the parliament of Corinth .

In 1917 he was appointed governor of Crete and remained in this post until 1920 .

After the rule of the monarchists in 1922 led to the defeat of the expeditionary army in Asia Minor and the massacre and expulsion of the indigenous population of Ionia , on August 28 / September 10, 1922, King Constantine dissolved the Protopapadakis government and entrusted the post of prime minister to his commissar in Constantinople, Triandafillakos [1 ] .

However, the ensuing uprising of the army , which quickly spread throughout the country, forced the government of Triandafillacos to resign on September 26 . At the same time, King Constantine left his throne in favor of his son, Crown Prince George II . The revolutionary committee arrested the ministers of the previous government and if not for the intervention of the ambassadors of France and Britain, the ministers would have been shot on the spot. The revolutionary committee made promises to the British ambassador that power would be transferred to the civilian government [1] .

Initially, the revolutionary committee appointed Alexander Zaimis as prime minister, but he was still in Vienna . By virtue of this, Crocidas was elected, who however was outside Athens during this period (but, unlike Zaimis, within Greece) [2] .

For this reason, the Prime Minister was proposed by Lieutenant General Anastasios Charalambis , who remained in this post for one day, until the return and oath of Crocidas.

70-year-old Krokidas became the Prime Minister of the country on September 17, 1922 , taking at the same time the portfolio of the Minister of the Interior [3] .

In the ensuing period, the country in reality was not governed by the Crocidas government, but by the revolutionary committee of revolution officers on September 11, 1922.

During the reign of the Crocidas government, most of Process Six took place. Krokidas resigned on November 14, 1922 , expressing disagreement with the proposed execution of six of the nine convicts [4] .

He died on July 29, 1924 in the village of Perigiali of Corinthia .
