Biography
He began his music studies in Belgrade, continuing his studies at the Prague Conservatory with Rudolf Karel (composition), Aloiz Šim (piano) and Joseph Suk . Here he was a member of the “Prague group” of composers, which, in addition to himself, included: Mikhovil Logar , Dragutin Cholic, Lyubitsa Marich , Vojislav Vuchkovich and Milan Ristic . After he returned to Belgrade, where since 1940 he began teaching at the Academy of Music (professor of composition and orchestration). In 1958-1962, he was director of the Institute of Musicology at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Among the students: Milan Mikhailovich, Vasile Mokranyats , Vlastimir Perichich. Since 1977 - retired. He wrote music for performances and films.

Recognition
In 1950 he was elected a corresponding member, and in 1958 - a full member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts .
