Description

They feed on juices of rut plants such as orange ( Citrus aurantium ), the genus Citrus ( Rutaceae ), as well as representatives of the Solanaceae family ( Solanaceae ). The species was first described in 1912 by the Brazilian entomologist Adolf Hempel ( Hempel, Adolph ; 1870-1949) [1] [3] [4] . The taxon Mesolecanium lucidum is included in the genus Mesolecanium (the tribe Coccini ) together with the taxa M. argaformis , M. campomanesiae , M. baccharidis , M. inflatum , M. ferum , M. jaboticabae , M. marmoratum , M. obscurum , M. planum , M. pseudosemen , M. rhizophorae , M. uvicola and others [1] [5] .
