The coat of arms of Donetsk region appeared in 1999 . Before the appearance of the regional coat of arms in the reference book "Heraldry of Ukraine", Donetsk region meant the coat of arms of the village of Khomutovo . Of the cities of the Donetsk region, the first city coat of arms appeared at Bakhmut . In the Soviet years, the coats of arms of most cities in the Donetsk region appeared, but for the most part they were not officially approved. In the 1990s - 2000s, new versions of coats of arms are being developed, which are officially adopted as city coats of arms by decisions of city councils.
The first rural official coat of arms in the Donetsk region was the coat of arms Stily . It was approved in 1996 . There are more than fifty rural coat of arms in the region - the largest number of rural coats of arms in comparison with other areas.
