Biography
He was born on July 8 ( July 20 in a new style) in 1845 in the village of Krestovsky in the Perm province in the family of a priest , orphaned early.
He grew up in Perm, studied at a theological school (1851-1857) and the Perm Theological Seminary (1857-1851). Democratic moods were strong here and much attention was paid to the natural sciences and rhetoric, which determined the direction of the literary and social activities of the writer.
In 1861, Kokosov was expelled from the seminary. Upon dismissal from her, he lived for a year in the village, performing the duties of a psalmist in the parish of his grandfather-priest, planned to ordain himself into deacons. Arriving in Perm for this purpose, he met with fellow students who persuaded him to go to study together in Kazan . In 1862-63, he lived in Kazan, preparing for exams. Here Kokosov was a volunteer and attended lectures of most faculties of Kazan University , medical more often than others.
In August 1863 he moved to Petersburg . After graduating from the St. Petersburg Medical and Surgical Academy (1870) and obtaining a doctor’s diploma, he worked as a doctor for more than 30 years in Eastern Siberia and Transbaikalia . He worked in Aksha as a doctor of the 2nd military unit of the ZKV (1881-1892, 1897-1903).
In 1903, Kokosov returned to Central Russia, continued his medical practice as a team doctor. He retired by age, serving in Nizhny Novgorod in 1907.
He died in 1911 in Nizhny Novgorod, was buried in the cemetery of the Holy Cross Monastery .
He was married to Yulia Semenovna Kiseleva, the daughter of a political exile; they had nine children in the family.
Memory
- After the death of Vladimir Yakovlevich, two Nizhny Novgorod newspapers - Volgar and Nizhny Novgorod Leaf - were published by obituaries , which recognized the great social significance of the works of V. Ya. Kokosov.
- The grave of Kokosov at the cemetery of the Holy Cross Monastery was attributed to the state to be protected. But on June 14, 1935, the city executive committee assigned the territory of the former Holy Cross Exaltation Monastery along with a cemetery for the construction of the buildings of the medical institute and the park. The Commission under the Presidium of the Gorky Regional Executive Committee on August 19, 1935 decided: to liquidate the former Holy Cross Monastery on demolition. The graves of P.I. Melnikov-Pechersky and I.P. Kulibin were moved, and the fate of the grave of V. Ya. Kokosov is unknown.
- The house in which Kokosov lived was preserved in Aksha ; a memorial plaque was installed on the house.
- In the fund of rare books of the Chita Regional Scientific Library. A.S. Pushkin stores medical publications donated by Kokosov to the library of the Chita branch of the Russian Geographical Society . [one]
