Yuri (Juraj) Palkovich ( Slovak. Juraj Palkovič ; April 24, 1763, Velke-Hlivany, near Bjanovec nad Bebrava - January 21, 1835, Estregom) - Austrian-Hungarian Slovak Catholic writer-theologian, teacher, translator, publisher, scholar Encyclopaedist, Estergomian canonist, Slovak Bernolakist activist and patron.

Biography
From 1773 he lived with his parents in Dolinny. He studied at the seminary of sv. Stephen in the city of Trnava and the Pazmaneum seminary in Vienna, after the collapse of this educational institution, continued his studies in the years 1784–1788 at the Main Seminary in Bratislava. In 1788 he was ordained priest. In the following years, Palkovich served as a chaplain in the Stiavnicka Bane (from 1789) and Pezinok (in 1795-1796). From 1796 he was an extraordinary professor, from 1799 - an ordinary professor of moral philosophy at a seminary in Bratislava, in 1800-1820 (until June) he was a professor of canon law and moral philosophy at a seminary and a librarian in the library of the chapter in Trnava. On October 4, 1816, he became a canon of the Archdiocese of Esztergom, holding this position until June 1820. On May 28, 1821, he became the prior in Komarno, on March 24, 1825 - probstom in Szentisfane. All his life he was actively engaged in the sciences: theology, Slavic languages, history, natural science, botany, mineralogy, numismatics.
While studying in Bratislava, Palkovich was a member of the patriotic philologists group and a founding member of the Slovak Bernolakist Scientific Society. After the death of Anton Bernolak and Juray, Fandley became the most prominent figure in the Bernolakist movement. Helped the spread and development of Bernolack writing mainly as an editor and translator. He was the largest philanthropist for Bernalacist literature, donating most of his income to the publication of their writings. Thanks to his donations, by 1835, in particular, all the major works of the Bernolakist poet Jan Golla were published, with which he conducted extensive correspondence and for which he was also a consultant and mediator.
Palkovich performed several translations from German, Latin and Greek, including biblical dramas and philosophical texts. He sought to translate the Bible into the Bernolaksky version of the Slovak language, which he eventually, after more than thirty years of work, managed to do and publish it at his own expense in Esztergom in two volumes between 1829 and 1832. He himself Slovak parishes sent free of charge. While working on the translation of biblical poems in 1825–1827, he participated in the work on the publication of the six-language dictionary by Anton Bernolak “Slowár Slowenskí, Češko-Laťinsko-Ňemecko-Uhersk”, which he compiled, edited and supplemented. After death, left a large library.
