Content
The early years
Price Brookfield was born on May 11, 1920 in the city of Floydad ( Texas ), studied at Fryon High School from the city of the same name , in which he played for the local basketball team.
Student career
In 1939 he entered the University of West Texas A&M , where for three years he played for the West Texas Teachers team, in which he spent a successful student career. From the 1941/1942 season , Teachers began performing at the Border Inter-University Sports Association (BIAA) , which at that time was part of the first division of the National University Sports Association (NCAA) , and in the first season won the regular championship of the BIAA conference, but could not get into the playoffs of the US student championship [1] . In his last season with Teaches, Brookfield became not only the team's top scorer, but also the entire conference, for which he was included in the 1st All-American NCAA Team [2] . The team is currently called the Buffalos , or simply the Buffs, and speaks at the Lone Star Conference (LSC) , which is part of the second division of the NCAA.
In 1944 he graduated from Iowa State University , where he played for the Iowa State Cyclones team for only one year, in which he spent a successful student career. Under Brookfield, the Cyclons won the Big Six regular conference championship and made it to the playoffs of the US student championship [3] . In the 1943/1944 season , Cyclones entered the finals of four NCAA tournaments for the first and last time in their history, where in a semifinal match, on March 25, they lost to the future winner of the tournament, the team of Arnie Ferrin Utah Utes ”, with a score of 31-40, in which Price became the best player in his team by scoring 6 points [3] [4] .
Professional career
He played as a light forward and attacking defender . In 1945, Price Brookfield entered into an agreement with the Baltimore Bullites team, playing in the American Basketball League (ABL) . He later played for the Chicago American Gears ( NBL ), Waterlox Hawks ( PBLA ), Anderson Duffy Packers (NBL), Indianapolis Jets ( BAA ), Rochester Royals ( NBA ) and Grand Rapids. Hornets "( NPL ). In total, he spent 2 seasons in the NBL, and 1 season in the ABL, UPL, BAA, NBA and NPL. In the 1946/1947 season, Brookfield, as a teammate of Bobby McDermott , George Miken , Dick Triptow , Bob Calihan and Stan Patrick , won the championship title in the Chicago American Giers [5] . In total, during his career in the NBL, Price played 91 games in which he scored 379 points (an average of 4.2 per game) [6] . In total , Brookfield played 61 games in his BAA / NBA career, in which he scored 476 points (an average of 7.8 per game) and made 137 assists [7] . In addition, Brookfield, consisting of American Gears and Duffy Packers, twice participated in the World Professional Basketball Tournament , becoming his bronze medalist in 1948.
Death
Price Brookfield died on Monday, April 17, 2006 , at the 86th year of his life in Pinehurst , North Carolina [8] .
