Social change

Social changes , as well as cultural changes - changes that occur over time within social systems and in the relationships between them, or in society as a whole [1] . There are four types of social changes: structural, procedural, functional and changes in the spiritual sphere [1] .

The concept itself captures the fact of a shift, change in the broad sense of the word. Social changes occur at the level of interpersonal relations, as well as at the level of organizations and institutions, small and large social groups, at the local, societal and global levels.

Sociology analyzes various types of social changes: evolutionary and revolutionary, short-term and long-term, organized and spontaneous, violent and voluntary, conscious and unconscious, as well as changes at the level of an individual, group, organization, institution, society, etc. Among many macro-sociological theories of social changes there are three groups:

  • sociocultural (changes in the sociocultural sphere - worldview, religion, value systems, mentality of social groups, societies and eras.)
  • industrial-technological (interpret social changes as derivatives of changes in the technology of material production.)
  • socio-economic (changes in economic development, more precisely - the interaction of productive forces and industrial relations.)
