Biography

Semyon Sobolev was born in 1920 on the Stefanovsky farm (now - Seversky district of the Krasnodar Territory ). He graduated from seven classes of the school. In 1939, Sobolev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1942, he graduated from junior lieutenant courses. Since June of the same year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .

By February 1944, Guard Lieutenant Semyon Sobolev commanded a mortar company of the 214th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 73rd Guards Rifle Division of the 57th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Kirovograd region of the Ukrainian SSR and forcing the Southern Bug . On February 29, 1944, in a battle near the village of Kotovka, Petrovsky District, the Sobolev company repelled a German counterattack. At the critical moment of that battle, Sobolev personally raised the soldiers of his company in a melee attack and discarded the enemy. On March 26, 1944, the Sobolev company was one of the first to cross the Southern Bug and destroyed a number of firing points that interfered with the crossing of the main forces. April 13, 1944 Sobolev died in battle. He was buried in the village of Malaesti in the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 3, 1944, the senior lieutenant Semyon Sobolev was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin and the Red Banner [1] .

In honor of Sobolev, an obelisk was erected on his native farm [1] .

Memory

  • The name of the Hero is carved in gold letters in the Hall of Glory of the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War in Victory Park in Moscow
  • On Victory Day in May 2011, in the village of Severskaya, opposite the district administration building, a bust was erected - a monument to Hero of the Soviet Union Semyon Grigorievich Sobolev, created by Achmiz Asker.
