Biography
He began to play chess even as a gymnasium student. He quickly reached a high level, in the 1880s and 1890s he became one of the best chess players in Warsaw. In 1886 he graduated from the Law Faculty of the Imperial University of Warsaw .
In 1884 he became the champion of the city, winning the 2nd tournament of Warsaw. In 1888 in Warsaw held a mini-match with S. Alapin (1: 1) [1] .
The initiator of the tournament by correspondence between the national teams of Warsaw and Moscow in 1879-1882.
In 1890 he created his first chess school, becoming a pioneer in this field.
At the end of the 19th century, on his initiative, the first chess tournament in Poland took place. Then Y. Zhabinsky began working as a journalist, led a chess column in the weekly Tygodnik Ilustrowany and the newspaper Kurjer Warszawski , on the pages of which he published the book Description of the Theory of Chess Problems translated from Czech . This publication was later included in the Chess Textbook later in 1913.
In 1899, he initiated and became the first chairman of the Warsaw Society of Chess Game Lovers ( Warszawskie Towarzystwo Zwolenników Gry Szachowej ).
After the end of World War I, he was the organizer of chess tournaments in independent Poland. In 1926, together with the activists of Warsaw, одód и and скаlскаsk, he organized and held the 1st National Chess Congress in Warsaw, at which the Polish Chess Federation was created and the first Polish Chess Championship was held .
