George Brown (July 3, 1790 - August 27, 1865) - English general, participant in the Crimean War .

Biography
George Brown was born on July 3, 1790 in Elgin .
In 1806 he entered the military service; fought in Denmark , in Spain and in the United States ; in 1851 he was promoted to lieutenant general .
In 1854, during the Crimean War , he was the commander of the so-called Light Division ( en: Light Division ), under Alma he commanded the left wing, under Inkerman he was wounded and went to Malta to recover his health.
In March 1855, he returned to Crimea and commanded an expeditionary force, which, along with the fleet under the command of Lyons, occupied Kerch and Yenikale on May 24 and 25. June 18, he acted in the failed assault on Redan ; then returned to England and in 1860 was appointed commander in chief in Ireland .
In 1865 he retired and died on August 27 of the same year.
