Ignat Nikolayevich Kovalev ( May 1, 1976 , Kalinin ) - a Russian canoe rower , played for the Russian team in the late 1990s - mid 2000s. Champion of Europe and the world, multiple champion of all-Russian championships, winner of the World Cup and other international regattas. At the competition he represented the voluntary sports society Dynamo , Honored Master of Sports.

Biography
Ignat Kovalev was born on May 1, 1976 in Kalinin . He began to actively engage in rowing at the age of seven; he underwent training under the guidance of his own father Nikolai Petrovich , who in the past was a famous canoe player, and now a well-deserved trainer. He achieved his first serious success in 1998, when he first won the gold medal of the adult all-Russian championship, having won among four-seat canoes at a distance of 1000 meters. Once in the main team of the Russian national team, he visited the world championship in Szeged, Hungary, from where he brought the silver dignity award won in the same discipline of S-4 1000 m.
In the 1999 season, Kovalev won three gold medals at once in the Russian Championship: among canoe-fours in two, five hundred and a thousand meters races. Later in the same disciplines he took three medals at the European Championships in the Croatian Zagreb - bronze and two gold, respectively. Thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the country's honor at the world championship in Milan, their four-seater crew, which also included rowers Konstantin Fomichev , Alexey Volkonsky and Andrei Kabanov , overtook all rivals at a kilometer distance and was the first to reach the finish line, achieving the champion's title. For these achievements, according to the results of the season, Ignat Kovalev was awarded the honorary title “ Honored Master of Sports of Russia ”.
Being one of the leaders of the national team, Kovalev tried to qualify for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, however, at the qualifying championship of Russia, their team took second place and, thus, did not get into the main competitions of the four-year-old. Subsequently, for several years he remained an active athlete, took part in all-Russian and international regattas. The last any significant result was shown at the national championship of 2002, when for the third time he became the champion among the fours at a distance of 1000 meters.
After completing his career as a professional athlete, he worked as an instructor and methodologist in kayaking and canoeing at the Tver High School of Sports. Currently, he heads the Federation of rowing in the Tver region in dragon class boats, and runs the Tver sports club Storm, specializing in this sport. Since 2009, with the support of the local school, it has been training children with disabilities, conducting master classes, engaging in social activities and promoting a healthy lifestyle, in particular, in 2013, participated in the Olympic torch relay. Member of the United Russia Party and the Public Chamber of the Tver Region [1] [2] .
