Biography

Galina Poryvaeva was born on February 22, 1980 in Kaluga . She studied at secondary school No. 50, began to actively engage in rowing at the age of twelve, following the example of her older brother Paul. She was trained in the Kaluga specialized children and youth sports school of the Olympic reserve "Typhoon" under the guidance of coaches Marina and Valery Taranin, later she was a sports club of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

The first serious success was achieved in 1999, when she won five gold medals at once in the adult national championship: with a single kayak at 500 and 1000 meters, with a double kayak at a distance of 500 meters, with a four at 200 and 500 meters (later became the champion of Russia in various disciplines 12 more times). Once in the main team of the Russian national team, I visited the European Championships in the Croatian Zagreb, where I brought the gold and bronze medals won with a four-seater crew in two hundred and five hundred meters, respectively. She also went to the World Cup in Milan, where she became a silver medalist in the fours in two hundred meters. For these achievements, according to the results of the season, she was awarded the honorary title " Master of Sports of Russia of International Class ".

In 2000, Poryvaeva defended the championship among fours at 500 meters and in the same discipline she won the right to defend the country's honor at the Sydney Summer Olympics . Together with the team, which in addition to her included rowers Natalya Guliy , Olga Tishchenko and Elena Tissina , she managed to reach the finals, but finished only seventh in the decisive race. “We didn’t get to that start in the best shape, because we spent all our efforts on preparing and participating in the selection at the Russian Championship. Yes, probably, as our coach said, we performed 90%, and not 110, as the winners should. ”

After the Sydney Olympics, Galina Poryvaeva remained in the main team of the Russian national team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 2002, she successfully performed at the European Championships in Szeged, Hungary, taking two bronzes in such disciplines as K-2,200 m and K-4,200 m. In the 2004 season, she replenished the medal collection with a bronze award from the European Championship in Poznan, when took third place in the four-kayak race at a two-hundred-meter distance. I had to go to the Olympic Games in Athens , I already got a license, but shortly before the start of the competition I was seriously injured and had to abandon this trip. Soon, in connection with the death of a permanent coach Marina Taranina, she decided to end the career of a professional athlete, at that time she was only 25 years old. “The adrenaline of going to the start always always killed me, probably, over the years of competitions I went over it. And, although my age now allows me to return to big sport and try my luck at the upcoming Olympics, I don’t need this anymore ” [1] .

Has higher education, graduated from the Moscow State Academy of Physical Culture . He currently works as a trainer and teacher in the Kaluga SDYUSSHOR "Typhoon", is engaged in the preparation of young talented rowers on the Yachensky reservoir .
