Sotnikova, Olga Dmitrievna

Olga Dmitrievna Sotnikova (maiden name: Porshonok [1] ; born 1921) is a Soviet tank officer, a participant in the Great Patriotic War . During the war years, she went from a chauffeur to an ambulance car to a deputy commander of a heavy tank company for the technical part of the IS-122 of the 112th separate guards heavy tank regiment ( 67th separate guards tank brigade ). Biography

Born in 1921 in Krasnodar . Russian [2] .

Before the war, Olya Porshonok lived in Leningrad , on the Vyborg side. She graduated from the courses of drivers, technical school [3] .

In the Red Army since June 23, 1941 (called up by the Frunze RVC of the city of Leningrad [4] ). At the front since June 26 [4] as part of the 3rd Leningrad People’s Militia Division . Then she became a car driver [3] .

On May 2, 1942, she was seriously wounded near Leningrad [3] and was treated in the hospital until November 17 [5] . Subsequently, she participated in the Battle of Stalingrad , in the battles for Kursk , Orel , liberated Belarus [3] .

In the period from December 3 to 22, 1942, the driver of the sanitary brigade of the 85th separate tank brigade of the 2nd Guards Army of the Stalingrad Front, Red Army soldier O. D. Porshonok worked at the front line in the villages of Pokhlebino , Nizhnyaya Yablochnoye and the March 8 collective farm of Stalingrad area . Took out 85 wounded soldiers and commanders from the battlefield in her car, “showing sensitivity and attentiveness to the wounded.” She was awarded the Order of the Red Star (December 23, 1942) [5] .

She continued her service in the 231st separate tank regiment, formed on January 10, 1943 on the basis of the 85th tank brigade. In July 1943, during the Battle of Kursk in battles near the village of Podmaslovo (now Zalegoshchensky District, Orel Region ), under enemy fire, she provided first aid to the wounded and took them to the rear. Saved the lives of 37 soldiers and officers. She was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree (August 5, 1943) [6] .

After graduating from the tank school, the junior lieutenant technician moved to the tank, becoming the mechanic-driver of the tank. It burned several times in its combat vehicle. In one of the combat episodes, tanker Olga Parshonok, on the instructions of the command, risking her life, redirected scouts three times across the front line [3] .

In battles on the outskirts of Gomel ( Belarus ), the 231st tank regiment was one of the first in the tank troops to use a night tank attack with lighted headlights. Together with company commander I. Vlasenko, Olga Parshonok was the first to break into Gomel and hold on for one and a half hours until the main forces of the regiment arrived [7] .

Since April 14, 1945 - deputy commander of a company of heavy tanks IS-122 of the 112th separate guards heavy tank regiment of the 67th separate guards tank brigade . Guard junior lieutenant technician O.D. Porshonok participated in the breakthrough of German defense on the western bank of the Oder River ( Germany ). Despite strong artillery and mortar fire, she repaired damaged tanks directly on the battlefield, trying to achieve the participation of the maximum number of Soviet military vehicles in battle [4] .

In the Ciechin area ( Brandenburg , Germany ) she personally got into the tank and led him into the attack. As part of the crew, she destroyed 5 soldiers with faustpatrons , 8 machine gun points, two field guns, three mortars, and up to 30 soldiers and enemy officers. During an attack in the Grunov area , she noticed how one of the tanks of the regiment caught fire. Rushing toward him to extinguish a burning car, she was shell-shocked by an enemy shell that exploded nearby. At the same time, one of the tankers was wounded. Overcoming pain, she took the wounded man on his back and carried him out of the battlefield [4] .

During the assault on Berlin , she recounted two restored tanks. For the April battles of the Berlin operation was awarded the second Order of the Red Star (May 6, 1945) [4] .

Having finished the war in Berlin, she signed on the Reichstag : “I am Leningrad!” [3]

Soon she married Siberian Vasily Sotnikov, whom she met in the war. We moved to my husband’s homeland in the Altai Territory . Three daughters were born in their family, there are grandchildren [3] [8] .

Lives in Barnaul ( Altai Territory ), worked in an assembly shop at a mechanical plant, a drummer of communist labor, was awarded the orders of Lenin and the Red Banner of Labor [3] . In the 1970s, a prize named after her was established at the plant [8] .

The author of the memoirs “Noisy Thunderstorms”. Personal documents of O. D. Sotnikova are stored in the Altai Regional Museum of Local Lore [9] .
