Biography
Born on August 13, 1919 in the village of Putilovo, now Kirovsky District, Leningrad Region, in a family of an employee. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1944. In 1937 he graduated from ten classes of Putilov High School, in 1939 - two courses from the Leningrad Shipbuilding College.
In 1939, drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . In 1940 he graduated from the Chkalov Military Aviation School , in 1942 - from the Ryazan Military Aviation Officer School . In the battles of World War II from November 1942.
On the combat account of B. I. Shesternin - airfields, bridges, enemy echelons, railway stations. He participated in one of the first massive raids on Berlin, bombed airfields, enemy trains, railway stations, bridges, military factories, fortified areas, was engaged in aerial reconnaissance.
By September 1944, the navigator of the 20th Guards Aviation Regiment of the 3rd Guards Aviation Division of the 3rd Guards Aviation Corps of Long-Range Guard Aviation Senior Lieutenant B. I. Shesternin made 176 sorties at night on the bombing of military targets in the deep and near rear of the enemy , clusters of his troops.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 5, 1944, for the exemplary execution of combat missions of the command to destroy enemy manpower and equipment and the courage and heroism of the guard shown to this, Lieutenant Shelternin Boris Ilyich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal " .
Throughout the war, B. I. Shesternin made 283 sorties, participated in the defense of Moscow , the assault on Konnisberg, Budapest, Prague, Berlin, participated in the operation to liberate the city of Kharkov.
After the war he continued to serve in the army. In 1952 he graduated from the Higher Officer Flight Tactical School of Long-Range Aviation Commanders.
Since 1960, Colonel B.I.Shesternin is in stock. He lived in Kharkov. From 1960 to 1962 he worked as the head of the civil defense headquarters of the Kharkov tram and trolleybus department, from 1962 to 1969 - the head of the headquarters of the Kharkov city communal services, from 1969 to 1974 - the deputy head of the public services department of the Kharkov city executive committee, from 1974 to 1981 - Head of the Human Resources Department of the Kharkov Metro.
Since 1981 - retired. Died December 14, 2011. He was buried in the city of Kharkov at cemetery No. 2.
He was awarded the Orders of Lenin , the Red Banner , two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, two orders of the Red Star , and medals.
In the city of Kharkov, a memorial plaque was installed on the house in which the Hero lived [1] .
