Biography
He was born on April 1, 1922 in the village of Bolshoy Ilbin, now Sayan District, Krasnoyarsk Territory . He graduated from 8 classes, worked on a collective farm.
In October 1941 he was drafted into the Red Army and sent to a military school. In June 1942 he graduated from the Kiev Red Banner Artillery School, evacuated to the city of Krasnoyarsk. At the front since July 1942. He fought the 1st and 2nd Ukrainian and 1st Belorussian fronts. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1943. By the beginning of the 1945 guard, Captain Shilov was the battery commander of the artillery division of the 34th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade. He particularly distinguished himself in battles during the Vistula-Oder offensive operation in January 1945.
On January 20, 1945, in the battle for the city of Radzeyuv of the Guard, Captain Shilov with his battery maneuvered around the enemy’s resistance node and dealt him a sudden fire strike from the rear. Opponents began to retreat, causing significant losses in manpower and equipment. The city was liberated by Soviet troops.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 27, 1945, Captain Shilov Sergey Andreevich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal for exemplary execution of combat missions of command.
