Biography

Born September 19, 1918 in the village of Chechulino (now in the Kamensky urban district of the Sverdlovsk region ) in a peasant family. He lived with his parents in the village of Verkhnyaya Sinyachikha (now the center of the municipality Alapaevskoye ), then at the Sysert station (now the village of Stantsionny-Polevskaya in the Polevsky city district ). He studied at a technical school in the city of Kemerovo , worked at a nitrogen fertilizer plant.

In October 1939 he was drafted into the Red Army by the Kemerovo Military Commissariat. Member of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. In battles with the German-enemy invaders participated on the Western, South-Western fronts. In 1943 he graduated from the Saratov Armored School. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1944. Having become an officer, he fought as a commander of a platoon of light armored vehicles of a separate reconnaissance company of the 9th Guards Mechanized Brigade on the 1st Baltic Front .

July 28, 1944 as part of a reconnaissance group conducted reconnaissance on the route Šiauliai - Jelgava . Together with sappers under enemy fire, he cleared a bridge across the river, which ensured the rapid advance of the units. Continuing exploration, burst into the outskirts of the city of Joniskis, panicked, scattered to the battalion of opponents, captured 3 tractors, a cannon and 5 motorcycles. Pursuing the retreating enemy, I overtook a convoy of vehicles with infantry, using machine gun fire, destroyed 17 cars and up to 60 opponents. At the station, Elea discovered an armored train that was destroyed.

When the commander of the reconnaissance group was wounded, the technician-lieutenant Chechulin took command of the group himself, made his way through the enemy’s convoy, while personally destroying three cars with grenades. Being himself wounded, he continued to lead the battle. July 29 submitted to the awarding of the title Hero of the Soviet Union .

The fighting continued. Guard technical lieutenant Chechulin died in battle on February 2, 1945. He was buried at the fraternal military cemetery in the village of Vainode, Liepaja district of Latvia.

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for technical courage and heroism of the guard, lieutenant technician Chechulin Ivan Pavlovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .
