Biography
Born in 1912 in the village of Cossack (now the Belgorod region of the Belgorod region ). Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1936. He graduated from school in his native village. He studied at the school of factory apprenticeship in Belgorod.
In the Red Army in 1934-1936 and since 1941. In 1935 he graduated from the 1st Moscow Revolutionary Machine-gun School named after the All-Russian Central Executive Committee. At the front in World War II since August 1941. He fought on the Western, Don, Voronezh and 2nd Baltic fronts. In battles with the enemy was twice wounded.
Major Commander of the 1st Rifle Battalion of the 341st Guards Rifle Regiment of the 119th Guards Rifle Division of the 10th Guards Army of the 2nd Baltic Front of the Guard distinguished himself when breaking through a heavily fortified enemy defensive line in the area of Rezekne.
Acting on the main direction of the advance of the division, Chernikov perfectly organized the interaction of the rifle companies of the battalion with the artillery divisions of the division and made a breakthrough of the enemy’s defense to its entire tactical depth, which determined the outcome of the battle for the liberation of the city.
On August 4, 1944, in pursuit of the enemy, the battalion shot down an enemy rear guard and broke out to the Iviekste river near the village of Barkava . Warriors of the battalion captured enemy rafts and boats, were the first to force the river and capture a small area. In the battle that broke out here, unit soldiers destroyed over a hundred opponents, captured 18 guns, 28 machine guns and other military equipment of the enemy. Major Chernikov skillfully organized the reflection of the enemy’s counterattacks, expanded the captured bridgehead and contributed to the advance of the division.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the courage, bravery and heroism of the guard, Major Chernikov Andrei Egorovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal .
In 1945 he graduated from the courses "Shot" . He commanded a regiment. Lt. Col. Chernikov died on April 4, 1950. He was buried in Moscow at the Vvedensky cemetery .
He was awarded the orders of Lenin , Red Banner , Suvorov 3rd degree, medals.
