Biography
Born on May 22, 1921 in the village of Pustovoitovo, now Globinsky District, Poltava Region . Ukrainian. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1943. Education is incomplete secondary. He worked as a tractor driver on a collective farm.
He was drafted into the Red Army by the Marxstad district military enlistment office of the Saratov region in March 1942 and sent to the front. He fought as part of the troops of the Stalingrad, South , 4th Ukrainian , 1st Baltic , 3rd and 2nd Belorussian fronts. Participated in the Battle of Stalingrad , battles on the Mius River, in the liberation of Donbass, Crimea, the Baltic states. He was twice wounded in battles. Particularly distinguished when capturing Konigsberg.
Gunner of the 358th artillery regiment of the 126th Rifle Division of the 43rd Army of the 3rd Belorussian Front, Junior Sergeant Khilchuk, as part of the calculation under the command of foreman A. Cheryomukhin, in the battle for breaking through the external contour of the enemy’s defense on the outskirts of Koenigsberg, acting in infantry fighting formations, under enemy direct fire, destroyed four machine-gun points with their calculations and two 75-mm guns, suppressed the fire of three more machine-gun points and the enemy’s mortar battery, which directly assisted the advancing infantry.
In street battles in the city of Königsberg, acting as part of an assault group, he destroyed seven machine gun points installed in buildings, two guns and up to 25 German soldiers, suppressed the fire of four machine guns and one rocket launcher.
On April 9, in a battle near the zoo, Khilchuk replaced the out-of-command calculation commander and destroyed four enemy machine-gun points, blew up the ammunition depot and suppressed the fire of one mortar battery. When the rifle units reached one of the buildings, intense fire from machine guns and machine guns of the enemy blocked their path. Junior sergeant Khilchuk rolled the gun to an open position and quickly destroyed the building, destroying five machine guns and 21 Nazis. By his actions, he ensured the advance of the infantry.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 19, 1945, for the courage, bravery and heroism, Junior Sergeant Khilchuk Vasily Nikiforovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal .
After demobilization, he again worked as a tractor driver, then he headed the Chelyuskintsev collective farm in the Globin district. He lived in the city of Globino. He died on December 31, 1987. Buried in Globino.
He was awarded the orders of Lenin , World War 1 and 2 degrees, Red Star , Glories 3 degrees, medals.
