Biography
Born on February 29, 1921 in the village of Zaranovo, Ryazh district, Ryazan province (now the Korablinsky district of the Ryazan region ). He graduated from 7 classes of a school in the village of Kurbatovo and two courses at the Kashira College of Agricultural Mechanization.
In 1939 he was drafted into the Red Army by the Korablinsky district military enlistment office and sent to study at the Baku machine-gun and mortar school. Member of the Great Patriotic War since July 1941. He fought on the southern front .
In August 1941 he was seriously injured, after the hospital he returned to duty. Then, as part of the 31st Infantry Division, he participated in battles for the city of Rostov-on-Don. The division, in which Streltsov fought, as part of the Black Sea Group of Forces of the Transcaucasian Front, then of the North Caucasus Front, participated in the defense of the Caucasus. From August 1942 to January 1943, the 31st Rifle Division, in which Streltsov fought, in the area of the villages of Rezet and Maratuki and the Opleplen Mountains covered the Lazarevsky direction. In February 1943, she participated in the Krasnodar operation, in street battles in Krasnodar and its liberation. For excellent battery performance during the defense of the Black Sea coast, he was awarded the Order of the Red Star .
Later he fought on the Steppe and South-Western Front . For brave and courageous actions during the breakthrough of defense on the Seversky Donets River, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1943.
By the autumn of 1943, Captain Streltsov was the commander of the mortar battery of the 75th Rifle Regiment of the 31st Stalingrad Rifle Division. He especially distinguished himself when crossing the Dnieper and Dniester rivers. On the night of September 29, 1943, in the area of the village of Soshinovka, in fishing boats, under heavy machine gun and artillery fire, the enemy crossed the Dnieper River and captured a small area on the right bank. While at an observation point under continuous enemy fire, he adjusted the fire of 3 batteries, reflecting the enemy’s counterattacks for four days, destroying up to 2 infantry battalions, 1 mortar battery, 5 easel and 4 light machine guns of the enemy. On rafts and boats, under continuous shelling of the enemy, he timely transferred the material to the right bank and, with organized mortar fire, during the artillery preparation on September 30, suppressed and destroyed the entire enemy fire system, which ensured the attack of the rifle units and the capture of the village of Auly and access to the Dnepropetrovsk-Kiev railway, in this case, up to 2 enemy companies, 2 bunkers, 2 easel machine guns and 3 enemy machine guns were destroyed.
On January 28, 1944, in the area of the Molniya state farm, as a result of repelling enemy counterattacks, up to 200 enemy soldiers and officers, 3 light machine guns, and 1 vehicle with ammunition were destroyed by a battery. Being on the battalion’s NP, when the enemy during the counterattack began to come close to the NP, Streltsov shot 4 opponents from a rifle point-blank. Remaining at the NP, continued to adjust the fire.
On April 23, 1944, when crossing the Dniester River regiment in the vicinity of the city of Soroki, Captain Streltsov ensured the crossing of personnel, despite massive machine-gun fire and bombing of the crossing by the enemy, without significant losses.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 13, 1944, Captain Streltsov, Vasily Dmitrievich, was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal for exemplary performance of combat missions of command.
He continued to serve in his unit, became the chief of artillery of the regiment. Since 1946, Major Streltsov is in stock.
He returned to his homeland. He worked in the Korablinsky district executive committee, then lived in the villages of Zaranovo. He died on August 17, 1966. He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Pustotino, Korablinsky district.
He was awarded the Orders of Lenin , Alexander Nevsky , two orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree, the Order of the Red Star , and medals.
A memorial plaque is installed on the school building in the village of Kurbatovo.
