Biography
He was born on May 28, 1920 in the village of Buda-Gorobievskaya, now Kanevsky District, Cherkasy Oblast . Ukrainian. He graduated from the seven-year school, and then Smila school factory apprenticeship. He worked at the Main Road Administration under the Council of People's Commissars of the Uzbek SSR.
In the Red Army from October 1941, from now on in battles. In 1942, in battles near Voronezh, in hand-to-hand combat, he received a blow to the head and was taken prisoner in an unconscious state. In early 1943, during the transportation of prisoners of war, he broke the grid of a freight car and escaped. He fought with the enemy in a partisan detachment operating in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kanevsky district. He went on reconnaissance, undermined the trains, broke the communication lines, blew up bridges.
As the front approached the Dnieper, the partisan detachments were assigned the task of ensuring the crossing of Soviet troops in the area of Svidivok near Cherkasy. On December 12, units of the Red Army forced the Dnieper. After connecting partisans with the advancing units - in the army. He took part in the liberation of Cherkasy, the Settlement, Shenderovka and other settlements.
The commander of the 857th rifle regiment, Chief Khomenko, led a platoon in battle on March 14, 1944, among the first to force the Bershad river in the Vinnitsa region . The platoon broke through to the rear of the enemy and destroyed over seventy enemy soldiers and officers with hurricane machine-gun and machine-gun fire.
On March 19, in the area of the village of Mikhailovka, a battalion of Romanian infantry and about three hundred cavalrymen went on the offensive. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 13, 1944, for the courage, bravery and heroism of the foreman Khomenko, Ivan Fedotovich, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal .
In 1945 he graduated from the course of junior lieutenants. Since 1946, Junior Lieutenant Khomenko is in reserve. He lived in the city of Lviv, then in Cherkasy. He worked in the service sector. He died on February 10, 1984. He was buried in Cherkasy.
