Biography
He was born on November 18, 1922 in the village of Zaupolovnitsa, now in the Vokhomsky district of the Kostroma region . Since 1937 he lived in the village of Maraksino, Pavinsky district of the same region. He graduated from an incomplete secondary school in the village of Ledengsk, then in 1940 the regional vocational school of the All-Industrial Union in the city of Shenkursk. He received the specialty of a furniture carpenter, but he did not have to work on the acquired specialty for long.
In November 1941 he was drafted into the Red Army and sent to a military school. In July 1942 he graduated from the crash course of the Pukhovichi Infantry School, evacuated to the city of Veliky Ustyug, Vologda Oblast .
In the rank of junior lieutenant, he was appointed platoon commander in the 52nd motorized rifle brigade of the 3rd Tank Army on the Voronezh Front . In mid-January 1943, in the battle for the station, Alekseevka was seriously wounded. After lying in the hospital for three months, he ended up in the 310th Infantry Regiment of the 8th Yampol Division of the 13th Army.
He took part in the Battle of Kursk. On July 5, 1943, almost the entire officer corps of the company was incapacitated by massive enemy fire, and the second lieutenant Shelomtsev took over the company command. Quickly putting in order the defense in his area, he organized a reflection of the enemy’s attacks. He was wounded, but remained in service. For courage and courage shown in these battles, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree and promoted to the rank. After a short treatment in the medical battalion he took command of the 6th company in his own regiment. Rota Shelomtseva was the first in the division to cross the Desna River near the city of Korop, and with rapid advancement to the Dnieper, she always marched in the head outpost.
The company’s commander of the 310th rifle regiment, Lieutenant Nikolai Shelomtsov, at the head of the company in the first echelon of the regiment with improvised means, crossed the Dnieper in the area of Navozy on September 22, 1943, and Pripyat near the Kopachi village of the Chernobyl district of the Kiev region of Ukraine on September 25. The successful crossing of water obstacles by the vanguard, the company of Shelomtsev, ensured the rapid advancement of the entire regiment, which carried out the military order to establish a bridgehead on the right bank of Pripyat for the division, and then the entire army. On September 28, the commander of the 310th Rifle Regiment for the heroism shown in the Pripyat bridgehead filled in a lieutenant Shelomtsev award sheet for conferring the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union .
Fights on the bridgehead continued. By October 4, the enemy managed to split our troops and again take control of Chernobyl. By the end of October 14, 1943, the 8th division was in a critical situation. Ammunition ran out, many units were defended from the last effort. Until October 14, the company Shelomtseva fought fierce battles with the Nazis, not surrendering the conquered lines. But the onslaught of the enemy intensified, the ammunition ran out. Gathering the surviving fighters, the commander led them through the forests and swamps to the partisans. The conductor was Ilya Filippovich Letunov, a fighter of the partisan detachment of Saburov, who joined the company. Making his way through the enemy rear, in one of the clashes with the Germans, Shelomtsev was injured in the leg.
On the fourth day, a detachment of 14 people met the partisans of the compound of Major General Begma, operating in the Gomel region of Belarus. All the soldiers who came out of the forest were armed and represented at least a small, but combat-ready military unit. November 18, 1943 healed Lieutenant Shelomtsev took command of the partisan company. At first, the company was guarding the headquarters of the compound, then it participated in battles with the Germans and gangs of Ukrainian bourgeois nationalists, in a raid of the connection to the city of Rivne, where in February 1944 the partisans connected with army units. For combat activities in the rear of the enemy, Shelomtsev was awarded medals "For Military Merit" and "Partisan of the Patriotic War" of the 1st degree. Only after leaving the enemy rear did he learn about the assignment of a high rank.
By a decree of October 16, 1943, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union , but in the text of the Decree, the surname was with an error - Solontsov. On October 30, 1943, another Decree was issued, and again with an error, Sholontsov. He was expelled from the Decree of October 16 after the war, June 3, 1947.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 30, 1943, for the successful crossing of the Dnieper River, the solidification of the bridgehead on the right bank of the Dnieper River, Lieutenant Shelomtsev Nikolay Grigoryevich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal .
After the war, he continued to serve in the Armed Forces of the USSR. In 1945 he graduated from the courses “Shot” , in 1956 - advanced training courses for officers. He was awarded the Orders of Lenin , World War I 1st and 2nd degrees, medals, including two medals "For Military Merit", the medal "Partisan of the Patriotic War" 1st degree.
The name of the Hero is immortalized on the stele of glory in the city of Prokopyevsk. On August 5, 2008, a bust was opened to N. G. Shelomtsev on the Walk of Fame of the city of Belgorod.
