Club
Nikol Jovanovic’s game for the Belgrade club Crvena Zvezda facilitated his transition to English Manchester United in 1980, thus making Jovanovic the first Yugoslav player in an English top-level club [1] . In addition, he went down in history as the first Manchester United footballer bought from a club not in the British Isles. [2] Also, the transfer amount of 300 thousand pounds was one of the largest for that time. . However, Jovanovic could not justify his high transfer cost, having begun to suffer from back pain at the end of his first season in England. He soon returned to Yugoslavia, to the Buduchnost club.

Jovanovic joined the Yugoslav national team at the 1982 World Cup . Of the 3 matches of Yugoslavia at the tournament, Jovanovic appeared in the starting lineup of the team in all three: in games against the teams of Northern Ireland , Spain and Honduras [3] .
