Biography

Pavel Skalatsky was born in 1910 in the village of Dubovoye (now Kolpnyansky district of the Oryol region ). After elementary school, he worked on a collective farm . In August 1941, Skalatsky was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since September of the same year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .

By September 1943, Sergeant Pavel Skalatsky commanded the guns of the 37th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 12th Guards Rifle Division of the 61st Army of the Central Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On September 26, 1943, Skalatsky’s calculation took part in the battles in the area of ​​the village of Lubech, Repki district, Chernihiv region of the Ukrainian SSR , repelling a large number of German counterattacks and destroying 2 tanks, 2 armored personnel carriers and a large number of enemy soldiers and officers. On the night of September 28-29, Skalatsky’s calculation was one of the first to cross the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Glushets, Loyovsky district, Gomel region of the Belorussian SSR, and destroyed a number of enemy firing points. October 14, 1943 Skalatsky died in battle. He was buried in Glushets [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1944, Sergeant Pavel Skalatsky was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and a medal [1] .
