The Archdiocese of Mwanza ( Latin: Archidioecesis Mvanzaënsis ) is the archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church with a center in the city of Mwanza , Tanzania . The dioceses of Bukoba , Bundy , Gates , Kayanga , Musoma , Rulenga-Ngara , Shinyanga are included in the metropolitanate of Mwanza. The Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Mwanza is the Church of the Epiphany.

History
On July 13, 1894, the Holy See established the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Victoria Nyanza, separating it from the Apostolic Vicariate of Victoria Nyanza (today - the Archdiocese of Kampala ).
On December 12, 1912, the Apostolic Vicariate of South Victoria-Nyanza transferred part of the territory for the creation of the Apostolic Vicariate to Kivu (today, the Archdiocese of Gitega ).
On January 15, 1915, the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Victoria Nyanza was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate of Victoria Nyanza.
On April 8, 1929, the Victoria-Nyanza Apostolic Vicariate transferred part of its territory to create the Bukoba Apostolic Vicariate (today, the Diocese of Rulenga-Ngara ).
On April 10, 1929, Pope Pius XI issued the log “Litteris Apostolicis Nostris” , which transferred part of the territory of the Apostolic Vicariate of Victoria Nyanza to the Apostolic Vicariate of Tabora (today - the archbishopric of Tabora ) and at the same time changed its name to the Apostolic Vicariate of Mwanza.
On April 11, 1946, the Apostolic Vicariate of Mwanza transferred part of its territory to create the Apostolic Vicariate of Musoma and Masva (today, the Diocese of Musoma ).
On March 25, 1953, Pope Pius XII issued the bull Quemadmodum ad Nos , which raised the Apostolic Vicariate of Mwanza to the rank of diocese. Initially, the diocese of Mwanza was a suffragan one in relation to the archdiocese of Tabora .
On November 8, 1984, the Diocese of Mwanza transferred part of the territory for the creation of the Diocese of Gate .
On November 18, 1987, Pope John Paul II issued the bull Universae Ecclesiae , which raised the diocese of Mwanza to the rank of archdiocese-metropolitanate.
On November 27, 2010, the Archdiocese of Mwanza transferred part of the territory to create the diocese of Bund .
