Biography
Nikolai Sirotin was born on May 21, 1922 in the city of Dno (now the Pskov Region ). After graduating from high school, he worked on the railway. In 1940, Sirotin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since July 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. In 1942, Sirotin graduated from the courses of junior political instructors. He was wounded twice in battles [1] .
By August 1944, Senior Lieutenant Nikolai Sirotin commanded a battery of self-propelled artillery " SU-76 " of the 156th tank regiment of the 45th mechanized brigade of the 5th mechanized corps of the 6th tank army of the 2nd Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of Romania . On August 22, 1944, Sirotin’s battery was one of the first to enter the city of Vaslui and stormed the railway station, destroying 1 self-propelled guns, 1 tank, 2 machine guns and about 40 enemy soldiers and officers. In the midst of the battle, finding himself under an air raid, Sirotin remained in his burning self-propelled guns and continued to fire until he died. He was buried in Vaslui [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945 for "courage and heroism shown in the Iasi-Kishinev operation," senior lieutenant Nikolai Sirotin was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and a medal [1] .
In honor of Sirotin the street in the Bottom is named [1] .
