Biography

Born November 22, 1916 in the village of Pankratovo, Pochinkovsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region in a peasant family. In 1932 he graduated from eight classes of a rural school. He worked on a collective farm . In 1936 in Pochinok he graduated from veterinary paramedic courses.

In 1937 he was drafted into the Red Army . Member of the CPSU (b) since 1937. At the end of his service in 1940 he returned home, worked as a veterinarian paramedic at the Pochinok Veterinary Hospital.

In March 1942, by mobilization, he was sent to the reserve rifle regiment. In 1943 he graduated from officer courses at the Leningrad Military Engineering School, evacuated to Kostroma. In the army since March 1943. He commanded a platoon of the 61st separate motorized pontoon-bridge battalion.

Moving forward with the advancing units, Solomonov's pontoon platoon ensured the crossing of troops through water barriers. In September 1943, while crossing the Dnieper, Solomonov led the crossing, made several voyages to the right bank with infantry and ammunition. He particularly distinguished himself in September 1944 when crossing the Narew River.

On September 5, 1944, during the crossing of the Narev River in the vicinity of the city of Ostroleka, Senior Lieutenant Solomonov provided the ferry units with ferries. Under continuous enemy mortar-artillery fire, in 10 hours, he platooned 24 voyages with fighters , ferried 8 regimental, 18 self-propelled guns with calculations and 24 cars across the river. For this operation he was presented to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union .

The offensive continued. The officer with battles reached the Oder. On April 16, 1945, a platoon of senior lieutenant Solomonov ensured under the bombing a ferry of infantry and equipment to the west coast near the village of Svetig, south of the city of Frankfurt an der Oder. An officer was killed by a direct hit of an enemy shell in a ferry, the body drowned in the river.

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the exemplary execution of the combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism shown to this, Lieutenant Solomonov Alexander Andreevich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .

He was awarded the Orders of Lenin , World War 1 degree, two orders of World War 2 degree, the Order of the Red Star .

In the village of Pankratov, on the house where Solomonov was born and lived, and on the school building in which he studied, memorial plaques were installed.
