Since there is no one to replace him, the village headman proposes the candidacy of a 13-year-old girl, Wei Mingzhi, who herself is not much older than her students. Gao reluctantly agrees and gives the last instructions before leaving: to sing songs with his students; make them rewrite texts taken from the textbook from the board; keep chalk of great value. But the most important thing: it is necessary that the students do not disperse where he is when his return, because every schoolchild counts. As it turns out, adhering to the principle of “not one less” is not so simple. The reason for this is poverty, which forces children at the age of 10 to go in search of work. When Zhang Huihe, one of the students, leaves for the city to earn money, the stubborn and determined Wei decides to go after him to return to school and fulfill the covenant of teacher Gao. But for this, she and her students must get somewhere money for the road ...
