Biography

Born in 1832 . He received secondary education in the Oryol Cadet Corps , the highest special at the Nikolaev Engineering Academy , at the end of the course in which he was released with the title of military engineer.

Since that time, N. M. Shevtsov's many years of tireless activity as a builder of many large military, naval and other structures began.

So, in Odessa he built: they say, an oil harbor, a cadet school and a military hospital.

Then he was entrusted with the construction of the Coven Fortress . This construction cost several million cheaper than the initial estimate and at the same time was the last word in military engineering.

Understanding how important cement is in large structures and, therefore, how important it is to get rid of dependence on foreign cement plants in this regard, N.M. put a lot of effort in order to organize and develop the Russian cement production in St. Petersburg , and the last one occurrence owed mainly to him.

Invited to build the Yalta port in Crimea, he brilliantly completed this task.

At the same time, he, together with Messrs. von Dervizami began to develop zinc ore and coal in the Kingdom of Poland and put this business on a solid foundation.

Then, together with the engineers Boreisha and Maksimovich, he also took upon himself the construction of the Libava military port. He did not have to graduate from the Libava military port.

It ended abruptly in the town of Dombrovo on the coal mines on July 17, 1892. His body was transported to St. Petersburg and buried in the cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra .

Being a very kind and religious person and, besides, having a good fortune, Shevtsov donated a lot to various charitable institutions, did not refuse anyone who came to him for help and built a monastery church at his own expense in the town of Borki , on the site of a miraculous deliverance from danger of the royal family on October 17, 1888, and in his native village he built a large wooden church.
