Biography
He was born on October 22, 1920 in the village of Trostyanka, now in the Bogatovsky District, Samara Region, into a peasant family. Secondary education. He worked as a pioneer leader.
In the Red Army since 1939. Member of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. In 1942 he graduated from junior lieutenant courses. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1942.
The commander of the battery of the 877th howitzer artillery regiment, senior lieutenant Ivan Smolyakov, on the night of December 5, 1944, as part of an assault group crossed the Danube River in the Hungarian city of Erci. Crossing the opposite shore, Senior Lieutenant Smolyakov on the radio adjusted the fire of guns that suppressed enemy firing points. Smolyakov participated in the seizure of the bridgehead, providing the ferry units of the 877th howitzer artillery regiment across the Danube.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the exemplary execution of the combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism shown to this, Lieutenant Smolyakov Ivan Ilyich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal .
After the war, I. I. Smolyakov continued to serve in the army. In 1946 he graduated from the Higher Officer Artillery School, and in 1954 - from the MV Frunze Military Academy. Since 1960, Colonel I. Smolyakov - in stock.
He lived in the city of Kuibyshev. He worked at the Maslennikov factory. Died April 25, 1980. He was buried in Samara at the Rubezhnoye cemetery.

The name of the Hero was carried by the pioneer squad of the school in the village of Trostyanka.
