Biography
Born in the village of Bobkovo now Rubtsovsk district of the Altai Territory in a peasant family. He graduated from the 5 classes of rural schools. Then the family moved to the city of Rubtsovsk, where his father worked as a machinist on a steam train. From September 1, 1941 to February 11, 1942, he studied in the 6th grade of the Pushkin school in Rubtsovsk. February 18, 1942 he entered the Altaiselmash plant as an assistant caster. He worked as an assistant vagner, vagmaker, casting evaporator. In connection with the plant’s belonging to the People’s Commissariat of mortar armament and the release of military products, on April 11, 1942, Ivan Fedorenko signed a non-disclosure of state secrets.
On June 10, 1942, Fedorenko I. S. was convicted by the people's court of the 2nd section of the Rubtsovsk district for refusing to work on May 22, 1942, because of the non-issue of special clothing to him. On the basis of paragraph 2 of Article 5 of the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 26, 1940, he was sentenced to corrective labor at a workplace for a period of 6 months with a deduction of 20 percent of his salary from the state.
In 1943 he was called up to the ranks of the Red Army by the Rubtsovsk military commissariat of the Altai Territory . In November 1944 he joined the Komsomol. On the front since December 1944, served as commander of the guns of the 4th battery of the 1137th light artillery regiment.
By order of the 1137th paw of the 1st Belorussian Front No.: 1 / n from: 01/19/1945, the Red Army soldier Fedorenko, a communications officer of the 2nd battery of the 1st division, was awarded the medal "For Courage" for restoring communication during artillery preparation [1]
Sergeant Ivan Fedorenko particularly distinguished himself when crossing the Oder River and holding the bridgehead near the city of Kustrin. On February 5, 1945, while repelling ten counter-attacks of infantry and enemy tanks, he burned four tanks from his gun and destroyed more than a dozen opponents.
On February 6, 1945, opponents of the forces, to the infantry battalion with the support of twelve tanks, launched six counterattacks. The commander of the cannon, Fedorenko, shot down two tanks and one armored personnel carrier with accurate fire. Despite the heavy losses, the enemy continued the offensive.
