Content

Venue

The championship was held from January 23 to 29, 2017 in Ostrava ( Czech Republic ) at the ChEZ Arena stadium [1] . The European figure skating championship was held for the first time in this Czech city. However, the Czech Republic itself hosted the European Championships for the sixth time.

Members

In the championship, skaters from European countries, members of the International Skating Union, competed ( Israel , Turkey , Georgia , Armenia , Azerbaijan also belong to European countries) who reached the age of 15 at the time of July 1, 2016.

Following the results of the European Championship in 2016, each country had the right to exhibit from one to three athletes in each discipline. National federations draw up an application on the basis of their own criteria, but the selected skaters must achieve a minimum technical assessment of the elements in an international competition before the European Championship.

Failed Members

Initial applications were received in mid-December 2016. The British team initially included a dance couple Penny Kums and Nicholas Buckland , but then they were transferred to the category of spare. In early January, a message came from Germany that the current champions of the country in sports pairs Marie Wartmann and Ruben Blommaert (announced for the European Championship) decided for personal reasons not to play together again [2] . In mid-January, they refused to participate: the only representative of Luxembourg, Fleur Maxwell , a sports couple from Ukraine Renata Hovhannisyan and Mark Bardey and the Czech dance couple Kortney Mansour with Michal Ceska . The latter were replaced by Czech vice champions Nicole Kuzmicheva and Alexander Sinitsyn . Half a week before the start, the representative of the Netherlands starred Nike Voris .

Minimum Technical Assessment

National federations (associations) selected the participants on the basis of their own criteria, but the declared participants had to achieve the next minimum technical assessment of the elements in international competitions held before the European Championships.
