Michael Malone ( born 1971) is an American professional basketball coach who is the head coach of the Denver Nuggets National Basketball Association .

Early years and studies
Michael Malone was born in Astoria , a suburb of Queens , New York, in the family of former basketball coach Brendan Malone [1] . In 1990, he graduated from the ( in the city of the same name in Massachusetts ), and then from 1990 to 1994 he studied at Loyola University in Maryland , where he received a degree in history. For four years, he also played for the local Loyola Greyhounds basketball team as a point guard. [2] For four seasons, Malone scored 370 points, made 279 assists and made 79 interceptions.
Coaching career
After graduating from university in 1994, Malone took the post of assistant coach for the basketball team at Auckland University . From 1995 to 1998, he worked as an assistant coach at the Providence Fryer. In the 1990/99 season, he served as director of basketball operations at the University of Virginia [3] .
Since 2001, he began to work in the coaching staff of the NBA club “ New York Knicks ”, where he was responsible for working with players, staff and the duties of the video coordinator. In 2003, he was promoted to assistant coach [4] . From 2005 to 2010, Malone worked as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers , who helped five playoffs in a row and reached the 2007 NBA Finals . In the 2010/11 season, Michael worked as an assistant coach for the New Orleans Hornets [5] .
In the summer of 2011, he moved to the Golden State Warriors , where he began to work under the direction of Mark Jackson [6] . In the 2012/13 season , the Warriors improved their performance from 23-43 to 47-35 and for the first time since 2007 reached the playoffs [7] . Having the sixth seeding number, the Warriors defeated the third seeding number of the Denver Nuggets in the first round, but then lost to the future champions of the San Antonio Spurs Western Conference [5] . In the 2011/12 season, Malone was the highest paid assistant coach in the NBA [6] . In 2012, he was named the best assistant coach for the NBA.
On June 3, 2013, Malone took over as head coach of the Sacramento Kings club [8] .
