Biography
Born November 25, 1925 in the city of Kursk in the family of a military serviceman, tank officer. Since 1938 he lived in the city of Novosokolniki, Pskov region . Here in 1941, on the eve of World War II , he graduated from 7 classes. In the second half of July 1941, Novosokolniki was occupied by the enemy.
In February 1942, together with a comrade, he crossed the front line in the defense sector of the 257th Infantry Division. Young scouts collected and delivered valuable information about the location of enemy units in Novosokolniki and its environs. The guys were enlisted as privates in the 322nd separate reconnaissance company. March 14, 1942 took a military oath.
From March 1942 until the end of the war V.A. Chaenkov served as a reconnaissance officer in various units of the 3rd strike army: as part of the reconnaissance company of the 257th Infantry Division, reconnaissance platoon of the 289th combat engineer battalion, in the reconnaissance company 25- th engineering brigade.
From the first days he participated in reconnaissance operations, primarily as a conductor who knows the area well. In May 1942 he returned to the occupied city, established contact with the underground. According to the intelligence chain created by the scouts, from the underground from Novosokolniki valuable information began to flow uninterruptedly. For the successful completion of the responsible task, the Soviet command thanked Vladimir Chaenkov. In February 1943, as part of a special group of 16 people, V. A. Chaenkov spent more than three months in the occupied territory - in the Pskov and Novgorod regions. In contact with the partisans, the members of the group committed sabotage on highways and railways, inflicting significant damage on the fascists.
In the summer of 1943, in one of the raids, the reconnaissance group in which Chaenkov was seized a tank and a self-propelled gun in full ammunition. Soon he was transferred to the reconnaissance platoon of the 285th Army Engineering Battalion. At the beginning of 1944, our troops were preparing for the offensive, and the scouts were in the neutral zone for days, plotting the enemy’s front edge, determining the system of firing points.
In the second half of February 1944, a reconnaissance group of three people, which included the Red Army Chaenkov, went behind enemy lines. For two days the scouts were in the rear of the enemy, in the vicinity of the village of Luga. Changing observation points, we plotted the layout of defensive structures, the firing positions of artillery and mortars. On the way back, during the clearance of the enemy’s front edge, Chaenkov removed ten minutes of tensile action and three “surprises” on wire fences. The passage made in the minefield was used by the foot soldiers during the offensive. By order of March 17, 1944, Red Army Chaenkov Vladimir Afanasevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.
In the summer of 1944, when the fighting was already on the territory of the Baltic states, the Red Army soldier Chaenkov fought as part of the reconnaissance company of the 25th Engineering Sapper Brigade. At the end of July 1944, acting as part of a reconnaissance group in the area of the city of Rezekne, the Red Army man Chaenkov established a scheme of fortifications on the outskirts of the city, plotted the location of enemy trenches and wire fences between them. The data received from the scouts contributed to the successful completion of the combat mission by rifle units. By order of August 5, 1944, Red Army Chaenkov Vladimir Afanasevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
On March 1, 1945, the Red Army soldier Chayenkov, being in intelligence, established places for crossing tanks and self-propelled guns across the water line near the city of Gryfice. A few days later, scouts of a separate motorized engineering reconnaissance company of the 25th engineer-sapper brigade in captured vehicles went into the raid on the enemy rear. On March 6, scouts in battle liberated a convoy of Soviet prisoners of war, while one escort was captured. On March 7, near the city of Volin Chayenkov, he was among the first to break into a guarded bridge, before destroying a machine-gun crew. Scouts captured the bridge, cleared it and held it until tanks arrived. For courage and bravery shown in this battle, Chaenkov was presented to be awarded with the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.
In battles on the streets of the capital, scouts of the 25th engineer brigade stormed the Moabit prison, where the extermination of political prisoners was being prepared. Chaenkov was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree for this operation.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 31, 1945, for the exceptional courage, courage and fearlessness shown at the final stage of the Great Patriotic War in battles with enemy invaders, Red Army Chayenkov Vladimir Afanasevich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree. He became the full holder of the Order of Glory.
After the war, V. A. Chaenkov continued to serve in the Soviet Army . After graduating from the military-political school, he received the rank of lieutenant, was deputy company commander for political affairs, commanded a company, was a party organizer of the battalion. In 1957, V. A. Chaenkov was transferred to the reserve for health reasons.
Settled for permanent residence in the city of Yaroslavl. For some time he worked as chairman of the Zavolzhsky district committee of DOSAAF. Then he went to the rubber products factory, headed the trade union committee. At the same time he studied: he graduated from high school for working youth, in 1968 - the evening department of the Yaroslavl Pedagogical Institute named after K. D. Ushinsky . After graduating from the pedagogical institute, he worked at a school for working youth. He conducted a large public and military-patriotic work. Participant of the anniversary Victory Parades of 1990 and 1995.
He died on September 17, 1998. He was buried in the city of Yaroslavl, on the Alley of Heroes of the Military Memorial Cemetery.
He was awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, Glories of 3 degrees, medals.
