Biography

Born April 12, 1923 in the city of Odessa. Ukrainian. He graduated from 10 classes and flying club. During the year of study at the flying club, mastered the U-2 and R-5 aircraft, Tomzhevsky received the title of "reserve pilot". Now it was possible to enter a flying school. However, age did not allow, since the guy was not 18, but 17 years old. Valentin became aware that admission to the Naval Special School No. 6 begins in Odessa. Having passed the selection and passing the exam, he becomes a 10th grade student [1] .

In 1941, having graduated from a special school with excellent marks, Tomzhevsky was given the opportunity to enter the Sevastopol Naval School . When the Nazis approached the Crimea, the school was evacuated to Rostov-on-Don. However, here the cadets did not have to study for long. In September 1941, due to the threatening situation, the school was evacuated to the city of Rostov-on-Don. In the same month, Tomzhevsky was enlisted in the Marine Corps, participated in the defense of Rostov-on-Don. In February 1943 he took part in the landing of the first landing in the Tsemess bay. Was injured.

After the hospital, he graduated from junior lieutenant courses. Until June 1943, he fought on the Lesser Land. Then he was transferred to the 218th Infantry Division, participated in battles on the Kursk Bulge. Particularly distinguished in the battles during the crossing of the Dnieper.

On September 24, 1943, a mortar platoon of senior lieutenant Tomzhevsky was among the first to cross the Dnieper River south of the village of Pekari. In the battle on the bridgehead, mortar detonators repelled 4 enemy counterattacks and made a roundabout maneuver behind enemy lines, ensuring that the river was boosted by other units of the regiment. September 26, in the battle for the farm Khmelnytsky, platoon soldiers destroyed 2 firing points before the platoon of opponents.

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 3, 1944, for the exemplary fulfillment of command assignments and the courage and heroism shown in battles with Nazi invaders, Senior Lieutenant Tomzhevsky Valentin Stanislavovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal .

In a battle on the approaches to the Polish border in June 1944 he was wounded. After the cure, I didn’t get to the front, I was sent to study. In 1944 he joined the CPSU (b).

In 1951 he graduated from the Military Institute of Foreign Languages. He taught English at the Chuguevsky and Kharkov Higher Aviation Engineering Schools, headed the Information Department at the Research Institute, and the publishing department at the Military Institute of Foreign Languages. From 1970 until his resignation, he was the first deputy head of the Directorate and editor-in-chief of the Publishing House of Military and Military-Technical Literature in Foreign Languages ​​of the USSR Ministry of Defense, Major General. Member of the Union of Journalists.

He lived in the hero city of Moscow . He died on November 20, 2001. He was buried in Moscow at the Vagankovsky cemetery.

He was awarded the Orders of Lenin , World War 1 degree, the Red Banner of Labor , two orders of the Red Star , the Order "For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR" 3rd degree, medals.

His bust is installed in Sevastopol on the Walk of Fame of the Black Sea Higher Naval School.
