Biography

Born on November 3, 1907 in the village of Nacha, now the Krupsky district of the Minsk region, in a family of a railwayman. Byelorussian. Since 1916 he studied at an incomplete secondary school, after its completion he worked as a repairman on the railway. In 1927 he graduated from the Borisov Agricultural College. He worked as an agronomist.

In the Red Army since 1928, according to the Komsomol ticket. He graduated from the Joint Belarusian Military School named after the Central Executive Committee of the BSSR in 1931. Since 1931 - platoon commander of the 24th Infantry Regiment of the Belarusian Military District. In 1932-1933 he attended training courses for improving command staff in Moscow . From 1933 to 1937 he commanded a tank platoon, and then a tank company in the 4th separate tank brigade of the Belarusian military district, then departed for studies. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1935. In 1936 he graduated from command courses at the Military Academy of Mechanization and Motorization of the Red Army named after I.V. Stalin. In August 1937, M.D. Shestakov was transferred to the reserve. He worked as a mechanical engineer at the enterprises of Minsk.

In April 1939, he was reinstated in the Red Army and was appointed commander of a training company in the 18th light tank brigade, since August 1939 - assistant chief of the 1st part of the headquarters of the 43rd armored brigade.

Member of the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940, commander of the armored battalion of the 43rd armored brigade of the Belarusian military district. As part of the battalion, he was sent to the front of the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940, participated in battles. In June 1940 he was appointed chief of staff of the 7th reconnaissance battalion of the 7th Panzer Division. Since June 15, 1941 - Chief of Staff of the 100th Tank Regiment of the 50th Panzer Division.

Member of the Great Patriotic War since July 1941. As part of the division, he arrived on the Western Front in early July, participated in battles near Bobruisk and Mogilev. Since August 1941, in the same division on the Bryansk Front, he fought near Gomel and Bryansk. Since November 1941 - the commander of the tank battalion of the 36th tank brigade on the South-Western Front . For his exploits in the heavy defensive battles of summer and autumn 1941, he twice presented himself with the Order of the Red Banner , but the performances were lost somewhere in the headquarters. The family of M. D. Shestakov died in the early days of the war in Bialystok.

The commander of the 1st tank battalion of the 36th tank brigade, Captain Mikhail Denisovich Shestakov, distinguished himself in the Kharkov battle in May 1942. On the first day of the Soviet offensive in the Kharkov direction, the tank battalion of Captain Shestakov crossed the Babka River on the move, captured two enemy resistance units near the village of Nepokryty, Volchansky District, Kharkov Region, Ukrainian SSR, and took many prisoners. When repulsing an enemy counterattack by fire from a tank, captain M.D. Shestakov destroyed four guns with calculations. He died in this battle.

He was buried in the village of Shestakovo, Volchansky district, Kharkov region .

For the exemplary performance of the combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism shown at the same time, Captain Shestakov Mikhail Denisovich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 5, 1942.

He was awarded the Order of Lenin .

The name of the Hero is Unecha secondary school of the Bryansk region .
