Biography
Born in 1918 in the village of Marinovka, now in the Belyaevsky district, Odessa region of Ukraine, into a peasant family. Russian. Secondary education. He worked in Odessa at a shipyard.
In the Red Army since 1937. In 1938 he graduated from the Odessa Military Aviation Pilot School . Member of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941.
By the end of August 1941, the commander of the 41st separate fighter aviation regiment, candidate for membership of the CPSU senior lieutenant Ivan Chulkov, defending the skies of Moscow , made one hundred eighty-seven successful sorties, personally shot nine in air battles and two enemy planes as part of the group, and when attacking ground targets, he destroyed two anti-aircraft installations.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 24, 1942, for the exemplary execution of the combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism shown to this, Lieutenant Chulkov Ivan Denisovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .
But the fighter pilot did not manage to receive high government awards. He died in aerial combat on February 2, 1942.
He was awarded two orders of Lenin .
