It includes an adjustable high-explosive fragmentation projectile with a semi - active homing head that receives the reflected signal from the target's illumination with a laser target designator -rangefinder . Designed to destroy armored targets and engineering structures from the first shot.

Description

The control on the trajectory is carried out by aerodynamic rudders with rudder drive due to the energy of the incoming air flow [1] There are versions of a projectile for calibers 120 mm (Kitolov-2) of separate-shotgun loading and 122 mm (Kitolov-2M) of separate-shell loading. For the KM-3 version of Kitolov-2M, the maximum firing range is 12 km. High-explosive fragmentation warhead. Projectile length 1190 mm. The mass of the shot is 28 kg. The explosive mass is 5.3 kg [2] . "Kitolov-2" was adopted in 2002 [3] .

The projectile is used in artillery systems:

  • SAO 2S9 (Nona-S), self-propelled guns 2S23 (Nona-SVK) - 120 mm Kitolov-2;
  • Howitzer D-30 , SAU 2C1 (Carnation) - 122 mm Kitolov-2M.

There is a version of the ammunition in the form of a mine for a 120-mm mortar called the KM-8 Gran .

The homing head for the Kitolov-2 and Kitolov-2M shells was developed by LOMO OJSC [4] .
