Biography

Born May 26, 1907 in the village of Tereshino, Kostroma district, Kostroma region . Before he was drafted into the army, he worked on a collective farm.

With the beginning of World War II in June 1941, he was drafted into the Red Army by the Kostroma District Military Commissariat. He got to the Karelian Front in the 186th Infantry Division. From the very first battles he showed himself to be a calm, restrained and courageous soldier, fearless and hardy. In December 1942 he received the first military award - the medal "For Courage". Being in a night search behind enemy lines, he was the first to burst into the enemy’s trench and provided the unit with a combat mission.

Since October 1942, he fought in a sapper platoon in the 205th Infantry Division. Exits to the "neutral" and to the front edge of the enemy became more frequent. In the spring of 1944, in one of the exits with scouts, well-thrown grenades suppressed an enemy machine gun, merging into a cover group, ensured the departure of scouts with a captured “tongue”. Reflecting the onslaught of the enemy, he personally killed six fascists and safely returned to the location of his unit. For this battle, the sapper Vinogradov was awarded on April 20, 1944, the second medal "For Courage".

During his stay in the sapper platoon from October 1942 to April 1944, the sapper Corporal Vinogradov made more than 80 exits with reconnaissance units beyond the front line, made 18 passages in minefields and wire fences, personally removed 600 enemy mines and land mines and placed in front of his defense more than seven thousand mine "surprises".

On the night of May 1, 1944, Corporal Vinogradov ensured the passage of the next reconnaissance group in minefields and wire fences. When 70 meters to the front edge of the enemy’s defense, a group was discovered. Vinogradov quickly removed the last mines in front of him, threw grenades at a machine gun and quickly cut through wire fences. A capture group immediately rushed along the formed passage to enemy positions. Having captured the “language”, the scouts, covered by a cover group, safely with the prisoner retreated down the aisle to their positions. By order of July 14, 1944, Corporal Pavel Petrovich Vinogradov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree for selflessness and skillful actions in battle

In early September 1944, the 26th Army of the Karelian Front went on the offensive and pursuit of the enemy in the Kandalaksha and Ukhta directions. In these battles sapper Vinogradov distinguished himself again. On October 8, in a battle in the area of the city of Kostenga, she made a passage for advancing infantry under enemy fire. The first to break into trenches, kill an enemy sniper and destroy the remnants of a bunker garrison destroyed by our artillery. A battalion and two batteries passed through the gate in the enemy’s defense, made by sapper Vinogradov. Moving ahead of the advancing units, as part of the platoon, he cleared the roads. On one of the sections of the road, he first became close to the enemy who appeared and resolutely entered the battle, immediately defeating two Germans with an automatic burst. During the battle that began, he was taken to a safe place by a seriously wounded sergeant from a platoon of our foot reconnaissance. Continuing to move forward, under heavy machine-gun fire, Corporal Vinogradov was the first to reach the bridge mined by the Germans, managed to clear it and prevent an explosion. Thus, the sapper made it possible for our approached units to freely cross the bridge and continue moving forward. He took part in the construction of the crossing for our tanks, which came to the aid of the infantry. By order of the troops of the 26th Army on October 22, 1944, for the courage and bravery shown in offensive battles, Corporal Vinogradov Pavel Petrovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree
