History
The surroundings of Agios Nikolaos have been inhabited since prehistoric times. According to the evidence of the XIII century , traces of the first settlements were found in the outskirts of the village and in the area of Pyrgos, where in the ancient period the civilization “Singos” developed, from where the Bay of Singitikos takes its name.
The modern village was formed as a result of the merger of two settlements: Agios Nikolaos and Agios Georgios, from which the eponymous chapel has been preserved. Thus, the name of the village was given in honor of St. Nicholas, and St. George became the patron saint.
Residents of Agios Nikolaos participated in the 1821 revolution .
