Biography
Ivan Silaev was born on January 13, 1923 in the village of Dolgorukovo (now - Serdobsky district of the Penza region ). After graduating from elementary school, he lived and worked in the city of Kuznetsk . In June 1943, Silaev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since September 1944 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By April 1945, the guard, the Red Armyman Ivan Silaev, was a saber fighter of the 61st Guards Cavalry Regiment of the 17th Guards Cavalry Division of the 2nd Guards Cavalry Corps of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the battles in Germany . At the end of April 1945, while reconnaissance near the city of Shtorkov , Silaev discovered enemy troops supported by tanks, and delivered information about them to the command, while he was wounded twice [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946 for "courage and heroism shown in the Berlin operation", the guard, Red Army Ivan Silaev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 9033) [1] .
After the war, Silaev was demobilized. He lived and worked in Kuznetsk. He died on October 31, 1981, was buried in Kuznetsk [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree and a number of medals [1] .
