Biography
Born on May 1, 1919 in the village of Novosyolovka, now the village of Cheryomushki, Kobelyak district of the Poltava region . Ukrainian. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1942. He graduated from seven classes of junior high school. He worked as an accountant on a collective farm.
In 1939, drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . In the battles of World War II from July 1941. In 1942 he graduated from the Tomsk Artillery School. He fought on the Central, Western, Leningrad, 2nd Baltic and 3rd Belorussian fronts. Defended Moscow and Leningrad.
On June 10, 1944, our troops, overcoming the strongly fortified enemy defenses, advanced to the village of Aleksandrovka, Vsevolozhsk District, near Leningrad. The commander of the battery of the 1309th anti-tank artillery regiment, senior lieutenant I.I. Solomonenko, under heavy fire, rolled the gun to an open position and hit the enemy with direct fire. Gunners made several passes in a wire fence on a minefield, destroyed four bunkers, destroyed two guns and several dozen soldiers and officers of the enemy. This ensured the successful advance of the 129th Guards Rifle Regiment. In this battle, gunner Sergeant V.R. Nikolaev distinguished himself. When the sergeant was twice wounded, the battery commander senior lieutenant I.I. Solomonenko ordered him to go to the medical unit, but the gunner obeyed only when the combat mission to suppress enemy firing points was completed.
On June 14, 1944, in the battles for the village of Kuterselka, despite air raids, gun and mortar fire, the battery of I. I. Solomonenko from four hundred meters with accurate shots made four passes in granite hollows and two passes in wire fences. Gunners suffered tangible losses. I.I. Solomonenko himself took the place of the gunner at the gun. Methodically firing, he personally destroyed four easel machine guns. Despite the wound, I. I. Solomonenko replaced the company commander of the 133rd Infantry Regiment, who died in this battle, and raised the infantry on the attack. Our soldiers broke the enemy’s resistance and broke into the first trench of the fortified line of the enemy of Kuterselk - Mustamyaki.
On June 22, 1944, in a battle for the Tali railway station, ten kilometers northeast of the city of Vyborg, Leningrad Region, the battery of senior lieutenant I.I. Solomonenko destroyed two anti-tank guns, six easel machine guns and four bunkers. Enemy aircraft endlessly bombed a battery of brave artillerymen. One bomb exploded next to I.I. Solomonenko and covered it with earth. The soldiers dug up their commander. And a few minutes later he again supervised the actions of the gunners. With a crushing fire, the battery of I. I. Solomonenko helped our rifle divisions capture the Tali station.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 21, 1944, for the exemplary performance of command missions in battles near Leningrad and the courage and heroism shown to this, Lieutenant Ivan Ivanovich Solomonenko was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal.
After the end of World War II, he continued to serve in the army. Since 1969, Lieutenant Colonel I.I. Solomonenko is in stock. Lives in Dnepropetrovsk. He worked as director of the Ukraine Hotel, then as a senior engineer of the Dneprostroyindustriya production association.
He was awarded the Order of Lenin , two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, two orders of the Red Star , and medals.
He was buried at the Sur-Lithuanian cemetery in Dnepropetrovsk . The bust of the Hero is installed in the city of Kobelyaki, Poltava region .
