Biography
Born on June 22, 1922 in the village of Guta Studenetskaya now in the Snovsky district of the Chernihiv region of Ukraine in a peasant family. Ukrainian. He graduated from 7 classes. He worked on a collective farm.

The gunner of the 115th Guards Fighter Anti-Tank Artillery Regiment, the Komsomol member of the Guard, Sergeant Pyotr Shmatukha, crossed the Dnieper River on September 27, 1943, at the village of Borodaevka in the Verkhnedneprovsky District of the Dnipropetrovsk Region of Ukraine . Being in the battle formations of the infantry, in the period from October 6 to 10, 1943, the gunner P. Shmatukha P. S. destroyed three tanks, several machine-gun points by the fire of his guns. The artillery guardsman was wounded, but remained in service.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1943, for the exemplary performance of combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism of the guard shown to Sergeant Shmatukha Pyotr Sidorovich, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal .
After the war, Senior Sergeant Shmatukha P.S. was demobilized. He lived in the city of Donetsk. Prior to retiring for a well-deserved rest, he worked in the internal affairs bodies, as a slayer and as an explosive master at the mine. He died on January 14, 1996.
