Biography

Born on February 9, 1919 in the village of Kanevshchina, now Priluki district, Chernihiv region . Ukrainian. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1944. He graduated from junior high school. Since 1935 he worked at a concrete plant in Leningrad. In 1936-1939 he was a young man on the Vidlitsa steamer on Lake Ladoga.

In 1939, drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . In the battles of World War II from June 1941. He fought on the South, Stalingrad, 1st and 3rd Ukrainian, 1st Belorussian fronts.

On January 18, 1945, the commander of the artillery reconnaissance unit of the 771th artillery regiment, junior sergeant G.F. Stepanyuk, performing a reconnaissance task, discovered significant enemy forces in the vicinity of the Ruda railway station near the town of Skierniewice in Poland and caused the battery to fire on himself. The enemy’s counterattack was foiled.

In this battle, Junior Sergeant Grigory Fedoseevich Stepanyuk died. He was buried at the Ore station in Poland .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the exemplary execution of the combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism shown to this, Junior Sergeant Grigory Fedoseevich Stepanyuk was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union .

He was awarded the Order of Lenin , a medal.
