Biography

Born on November 2, 1917 in the village of Orda now in the Poshekhonsky district of the Yaroslavl region . Member of the Komsomol since 1939. He graduated from elementary school. He worked on a collective farm.

He was drafted into the Red Army in 1938 by the Alapaevsky district military registration and enlistment office of the Sverdlovsk region . In the battles of World War II from February 15, 1943. He fought on the Central Front .

On October 15, 1943, the commander of the 12th Separate Engineer Battalion, Komsomolets sergeant A.V. Trifonov, distinguished himself when crossing the Dnieper in the vicinity of the urban-type village of Loyev, Gomel Region . Under the hurricane rifle-machine gun and artillery-mortar fire of the enemy, with his calculation, he made 7 voyages to the right bank of the Dnieper on a boat and transported 140 infantry with arms in 1 hour 30 minutes. On the third voyage of Trifonov, as a result of direct landmines falling into the boat, he was seriously injured in the leg, however, overcoming severe pain, he swam, took another boat ashore and continued to carry landing groups on the right bank of the Dnieper. On the seventh voyage, Trifonov, when returning to the left bank, was again wounded in the arm, however, bleeding, he brought the boat to the left bank and lost consciousness, after which he was sent to the medical battalion.

On October 22, 1943, Sergeant A.V. Trifonov died of his wounds. He was buried in a mass grave in the village of Grabov, Repki district, Chernihiv region .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 30, 1943, for the courage and heroism shown during the crossing of the Dnieper, Sergeant Trifonov Alexander Vasilievich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .

He was awarded the Orders of Lenin , Red Star , the medal "For Courage".

In the city of Poshekhonye-Volodarsk on the avenue of Heroes there is a bas-relief of A. V. Trifonov.
